"You never know what happens" – Kylian Mbappe opens up on desire to play for surprise Italian club amid Real Madrid rumors
Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) ace Kylian Mbappe has claimed that he has the desire to play for AC Milan ahead of his reported summer transfer to La Liga giants Real Madrid.
Earlier this month, the 25-year-old Frenchman ended months of speculation about his future and confirmed that he will leave PSG at the end of his deal next month. He will depart the Parisians after lifting 15 trophies, including a staggering six Ligue 1 titles.
Speaking recently to Sky Sports, Mbappe was asked whether he has dreamed of a move to the Serie A with his seven-year-stint at PSG coming to an end. He replied (h/t SPORTbible):
"Italian football? You never know what happens. I was always saying: 'If I will go to Italy one day, I will go to Milan'. As a kid, I was a big fan of AC Milan and I always watch the Serie A... every Milan game. All my family, they are all massive Milan fans."
Milan, who have won seven UEFA Champions League crowns so far, have the rich history but not the financial muscle to sign superstars like the PSG man. However, they have been on the rise again in recent years, finishing second in the league standings this season and winning the Serie A title in the 2021-22 campaign.
Mbappe, on the other hand, is reportedly set to sign a five-year deal after joining Real Madrid on a Bosman move. He is expected to earn €15 million-a-season and will pocket €150 million signing-on bonus.
Should the AS Monaco youth product join Real Madrid, he would pop up as their talismanic figure. He would likely start in a central role, linking up with Jude Bellingham and Vinicius Junior in the final third.
PSG table bid to sign replacement for Real Madrid-bound Kylian Mbappe this summer
According to Italian news outlet Gazzetta dello Sport, PSG have tabled a bid of €100 million to lure Khvicha Kvaratskhelia away from Napoli. They deem the ex-Rubin Kazan star an ideal replacement for Kylian Mbappe, who is expected to join Real Madrid soon.
Kvaratskhelia, 23, has established himself as one of the most exciting wingers in the Serie A since arriving from Dinamo Batumi for over €13 million in 2022. He helped Napoli lift the 2022-23 Serie A title, winning the league's Most Valuable Player award in the process.
A 29-cap Georgia international, Kvaratskhelia has scored 25 goals and laid out 26 assists in 88 games across competitions for Napoli.
