"Zero chance" - Tim Sherwood believes Manchester United have no chance against Man City if they repeat Copenhagen performance

Sky Sports pundit Tim Sherwood was critical of Manchester United's performance against FC Copenhagen in the UEFA Champions League on October 24. The former Tottenham Hotspur manager reckons that Erik ten Hag's side stand no chance of winning against Manchester City on Sunday, October 29.

He said (on Sky Sports via Football Daily):

“Zero chance. There’s no chance.”

Sherwood went on to explain that Manchester United looked disorganised in defense against their UCL opponents on Tuesday. The Red Devils began the game poorly but grew into the affair, eventually taking the lead in the second half through a Harry Maguire header.

Andre Onana then came to the rescue late in the game, saving a penalty to ensure the hosts took home all three points. It was their first win in the group stage after beginning their campaign with two straight losses to Bayern Munich and Galatasaray.

Ten Hag's side are now set to face their cross-town rivals in the Premier League on Sunday. United have had a poor start to the season, winning just five of their first nine league games, and are currently eighth.

Manchester City, on the other hand, are second, two points behind league leaders Tottenham Hotspur.

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag was full of praise for defender Harry Maguire following their 1-0 win over FC Copenhagen in the Champions League. After the game, the Dutchman lauded the 30-year-old's contributions on and off the ball, saying (via press conference):

“I think so, he is playing more proactive in possession. Stepping in, passing vertical, defending on the front foot and also stepping in, passing vertical. Defending on the front foot, he is also stepping in and playing forward. Very confident in the duels, I think he is dominating.
“Also in the right moments, he is showing his aggression against the opponents. Then, you see he is also rewarded because of his heading.

Ten Hag also lauded Christian Eriksen for his assist for Maguire's goal:

"I have to say it is a great pass from Christian [Eriksen], but it was a great finish.”

Manchester United overcame a nervy start to defeat their Danish visitors, with the only goal of the night scored by Maguire in the second half. They secured their first points of the Champions League campaign, having lost their first two games.

Maguire has been at the receiving end of lots of criticism from fans in recent years. However, he has received an extended chance in the lineup with injuries to Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane and has impressed the Red Devils faithful.
