Nice's Anin could be paralysed after crash
Nice midfielder Kevin Anin could be left paralysed after suffering serious injuries in a car crash on Monday night, according to French media reports on Wednesday.
Anin, 26, suffered an injured spinal column and several fractures to both arms when the car he was travelling in crashed around 60 kilometres to the north-east of the Normandy city of Rouen, his Ligue 1 club revealed.
The sports daily L’Equipe reported that Anin was sitting in the back of the car, a Volkswagen Polo, when the driver lost control of the vehicle, which flipped several times as it went off the road.
Anin was in intensive care in a Rouen hospital on Tuesday night, along with the three other people who were involved in the crash, amid fears that the spinal injury could leave him paralysed.
“The situation seems quite serious. We are worried,” said Nice director general Julien Fournier.
A talented midfielder, Anin has endured something of a chequered career to date, marred by personal problems.
He moved to Nice from Sochaux in January 2012 for 2.5 million euros ($3.3m) but missed more than four months of the season just finished because of depression and has played just 26 league games for the south-coast side.
