"Nobody has done better than us", says confident Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho

Jose Mourinho looks dejected during his side’s 2-1 defeat to Newcastle.

A defeat to that brings down an unbeaten run is surely going to hurt any manager, even if he claims to be the special one. Chelsea’s Jose Mourinho, however, still insists that the Premier League is all about winning matches and not breaking records.

“We are top of the league,” he was quoted by the Daily Mail. “Nobody has done better than us. Everyone would like to be in our position. So we are more than fine. We are better than anybody else.”

He adds, “We were unlucky. It is as simple as that. The best team lost. The team that tried to win, lost. For people like me who have been in football for so long you have to accept this anomaly. Newcastle did what they always do. They defended. They fought hard. They tried to counter attack when it was possible. This is the way they play against us.”

Chelsea continued their poor run of form at St. James’ Park as Newcastle United substitute Papiss Cisse bagged his brace in the second half to end their 23-match unbeaten streak.

He also spoke about Chelsea’s Spanish hitman Diego Costa who has been somewhat silent with his goalscoring prowess, stating, “He has to improve his condition,’ he said. ‘He was injured, he had many doubts and he had a long time without training and that obviously must have an effect on a player – the way he runs, the way he moves, his coordination.”

“He has to recover but I don't think there is any problem. For me, the problem is not the goals. The goals will come as a consequence of his condition.”
