NorthEast United FC sign former Wolverhampton player Silas

Silas has played for Wolverhampton previously

Indian Super League franchise NorthEast United FC has signed Portugal's Jorge Manuel Rebelo Fernandes, better known as Silas, for the second edition of the ISL.

The 38-year-old Lisbon-born Silas started off his youth career with Domingos Sávio, Sporting Clube de Portugal and Atlético Clube de Portugal. It was at Atlético Clube de Portugal that he also got his first start as a professional.

Thereafter he went to play for Spanish side AD Ceuta and on loan to Elche CF before returning to Portugal to play for União Leiria. He made a move to promoted English Premier League side Wolverhampton Wanderers FC but he didn't settle down and was loaned to Marítimo Funchal and Belenenses Lisbon before making a permanent move back to Portugal to Belenenses Lisbon and then a second spell at União Leiria.

Thereafter, he once more left his home country and went to Cyprus where he played for AEL Limassol, AEP and Ethnikos Achna from 2011 to 2014. Last summer he returned to his first pro team Atlético Clube de Portugal and was their captain last season and in the last six months he played with Grégory Arnolin of FC Goa.

Silas said on signing for NorthEast United FC: "To take up this new challenge in the ISL- Indian Super League, help #NEUFC reach the heights it deserves to touch and prove myself by delivering quality performances."
