Nutmegging Luiz was the only option I had to score: Luis Suarez

Luis Suarez says he had to nutmeg David Luiz as he had no other option

Paris, April 16 (IANS) Spanish club FC Barcelona striker Luis Suarez has said he had no option but to nutmeg Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) defender David Luiz twice as he scored two wonderful goals to give his side a 3-1 victory in the first leg of the Champions League quarter-final here.

Nutmeg is a football technique in which a player rolls the ball between an opponent's legs in order to dodge him. This can be done in order to pass to another player, to shoot on goal, or to carry on and retrieve it.

Suarez easily cut inside Luiz to put Barcelona 2-0 up, and then repeated the trick again to score his second and his third for the night on Wednesday.

"A striker is always looking for goals and the two moves came off for me. I had to nutmeg Luiz twice because there was nothing else I could do. A nice move came off, and the ball went in." Suarez was quoted as saying by BBC.

He also said, “We three forwards can play in any of the three positions, so we can switch around. Leo also comes into the centre and space opens. That is why the goal came from the right wing.”

“The tie is not over yet”

The Uruguayan forward also indicated that the tie was not over yet and that PSG could still come back. "In football you never know what can happen. They have a lot of quality and we must be aware that this is not over yet. It will be a nice game."

When asked what had worked for Barcelona, he praised the team’s intensity, saying, "We were intelligent showing focus from the first minute of the game. We knew we needed to play with lots of intensity. They are very strong at home, and we were able to turn the game our way. We must not undervalue the tactical work we did. We ran a lot and they were missing important players."

The 28-year-old took his tally to 17 goals for Barcelona this season and has put the Catalans on the brink of the semi-finals.

Brazilian forward Neymar had put the Spanish side ahead and then Suarez struck his first goal of the night, as he rolled the ball between the legs of Luiz and then smashed it home. He repeated the act again, nutmegging Luiz before hammering a shot into the top corner.
