Of racists and pitch invaders

When it comes to racism and pitch invasion, you have heard it all, you have even seen the worst of it. There was once a time when nets would grace football stadiums to prevent invasion on the pitch by fans and other hooligans, but that only led to tragedy. Pitch invasion is becoming quite the bother, and the menace is fast getting out of hand. Fans throw alien objects at players and officials and lots of other missiles. There are others who take it a little bit too far and even run off into the pitch.

Maybe the governing bodies would like to place the blame on the fans for unsporting character, or even the teams involved for not being able to control their fans, but then again, it remains a gigantic task for all parties involved. That notwithstanding, someone needs to clamp down on this menace, and fast. I watched someone run off to Lionel Messi and luckily for him, it was a friendly pitch invader, who felt like he was meeting God or something.

However, one of these days it will not be coins thrown, or hugs and kisses, but a knife, a gun or anything you can think of will rob the world of a good player, and then FIFA will maybe from then think so hard about it.

Racism is alive, and it is so vile. When Boateng leads a delegation of AC Milan players off the pitch in protest against racist chants, you know something is wrong. FIFA will once again bury its head in the sand and say that it was not a good thing to do, and that the game must go on. The game must go on? I mean, you are playing your sweat out to earn your living while at the same time trying to impress the same fans, and they chant racist chants at you? That is so sick. You bet if there was to be a net to filter all the vile racism chants you will see all the hatred that lies behind them.

And that also leaves so much to be desired about the likes of Paolo Berlusconi

It is time we find a lasting solution to these issues. Racism is an animal, one that can no longer be tamed. For that reason we must find a way of handling the animal.

It gets worse when a club is considered Europe’s most racist club, and people go about it like business as usual.

All of us have a role to play. We have had football for ages and we will still have the game with us, but at this rate, the future of the game does not look so bright.

What kind of examples are we showing our children?

I love the game, I stand up against racism, and I shun pitch invaders. Get up and speak out against the evils killing our beautiful game.
