Official: Borussia Dortmund buy back Mario Goetze from Bayern Munich

He’s returned home

After much speculation over the summer, Mario Goetze has finally completed his transfer from Bayern Munich. The playmaker had a rough three season in Bavaria and after a year when he was marred by injury and lack of form he has decided to return to the place where he became known as one of the most talented youngsters in the world.

How the BVB fans will take this news is still unknown. His departure was under a lot of scrutiny by the fans. His transfer from Dortmund to Munich was announced just hours before the Champions League final which was between the two German powerhouses.

Fans were enraged that their star player had decided to finalize the deal before the season was even over. Goetze went on to win 3 Bundesliga titles with Munich but his contribution to the wins was not satisfactory.

The sparkle and dazzle he had at Dortmund had left his feet but now back at his old club maybe he will be able to rediscover his form. After re-uniting with his old club, Goetze has released a statement on Borussia Dortmund’s official website(http://www.bvb.de/)

“When I switched from BVB to Bayern in 2013, that was a conscious decision behind which I will not hide myself today.Three years later, and with 24 years of, I look with different eyes at my former decision.”

“I can well understand that many fans could not understand my decision. I would not even take it so today! When I return to my home, I want to convince everyone - especially those who do not receive me with open arms - to convince by performance. My aim is to play again my best football. For all of us, the club and the BVB fans. "

"My thanks go out to Bayern Munich chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge We have negotiated with Bayern in this transfer window three changes. All our conversations were marked by great professionalism and mutual trust.“

The fee is reported to be around €26 million and the German has signed a 4-year contract with Dortmund. It also comes as a big blow to Liverpool who also wanted to sign the 24-year-old and were hoping Klopp’s influence would help attract him to England.

It has been exactly 1178 days since Goetze played his last game for Dortmund and now he will don the black and yellow of the club once again. Will it be a happy homecoming?
