Alan Pardew compares Loic Remy to Johann Cruyff and Dennis Bergkamp

Alan Pardew has admitted it may be difficult for Newcastle to secure Loic Remy on a permanent deal after the Frenchman netted once again in Newcastle’s victory over Aston Villa.

Remy returned from his three game suspension to score in stoppage time to seal a 1-0 win over relegation threatened Villa, lifting Newcastle back into eighth position in the Premier League table.

Pardew compared the on-loan QPR striker to some illustrious players as he enthused over his forward, but realised that his performances will attract attention from bigger clubs, with whom Newcastle cannot compete with in the transfer market.

Pardew told reporters after the game, “Somebody said to me the game seemed a little bit slower when he was on the ball and I think when you get a quality player, that’s what they can do.

“Players like [Johann] Cruyff and [Dennis] Bergkamp, they can slow the game down and he can do that.

“He’s going to be hot property (in the summer). He’s going to get a lot of press tomorrow and I’m going to leave him out of the next 11!”

Pardew also continued his war of words with the media, celebrating Remy’s late winner with a gesture to the press box after reports of dressing room unrest at Newcastle.

“I was a little bit happier after it went in than I was prior to it going in.

“I thought the media have been a little bit miserable this week. A couple of reports were definitely aimed at putting me under pressure, which I thought was a little bit unfair.

“There’s pressure enough in this job without a couple of stories that were untrue, so it was a little bit of a smile to them too – cheer up, let’s move on.”
