A Paris court Friday fined a man 200 euros ($260) for sporting a Paris Saint-Germain football jersey bearing the name Bin Laden despite his claim that it was not a tribute to the Al-Qaeda leader.

Police who arrested the 21-year-old said he told them he was honouring the memory of Osama bin Laden, but he denied that in court.

“It was the policeman who wanted me to say that,” he said, adding that he had thought that Bin Laden was a reference to a hit by the French rap group.

He said he had seen far worse jerseys, such as one bearing the name Adolf Hitler.
