Aston Villa fire manager Paul Lambert due to the club's poor run of form
London, Feb 12 (IANS) Aston Villa’s Paul Lambert has been fired after the team dropped into the relegation zone of the English Premier League. Villa slipped to the 18th in the 20-team league following five straight defeats, reports Xinhua.
Lambert, a Champions League winner as a player with Borussia Dortmund in 1997, took over at Villa in June 2012. He was sacked on Wednesday, a night after the Villans lost to Hull City 2-0.
After Lambert's departure, first-team coach Scott Marshall and goalkeeping coach Andy Marshall will prepare the squad for Sunday's FA Cup fifth-round match against Leicester.
A statement issued by the club read, “The club would also like to place on record its thanks to Paul and take this opportunity to wish him every success in the future. The club will announce a new manager in due course. There will be no further comment from the club at this stage.”
