Paul Scholes wants Manchester United to sign Toni Kroos

Former Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes revealed on his Paddy Power column that German playmaker Toni Kroos should be the prime target for new Red Devil’s boss Louis van Gaal in the 2014/15 summer transfer window.

Toni Kroos was quite influential in Bayern Munich’s title winning 2013/14 Bundesliga season, as he went on to play 51 games in all competitions and scored 4 goals.

The Bayern Munich midfielder has been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford. Earlier this year former United manager David Moyes was accompanied by Toni Kroos’ agent at Borussia-Park to watch Bayern Munich face Borussia Mönchengladbach.

Manchester United are believed to have offered £20million to lure Kroos out of Bayern Munich.

The Manchester United legend wrote, "The first player I'd bring in is Toni Kroos. He's a top-class centre midfield player but United need five or six to get anywhere near the top of the Premier League again."

Scholes who retired from Manchester United after winning his 11h league title in 2013, came back to the club this year to assist Ryan Giggs for the final four games of the season.

He added: "I've not spoken to Ed Woodward. I came back for Ryan for the last few games to try to help out but I'm not waiting for a phone call and don't expect to be at Old Trafford next season.”

Louis van Gaal has been appointed the new Manchester United manager, while Ryan Giggs would serve as his assistant. He added, "Van Gaal has the credentials. He's been at the biggest clubs in the world but he has a major job on his hands at Man United. They are a long way behind and if he gets them to the Champions League, it'll be a start.”

After a disappointing 2013/14 summer transfer window, Scholes believes the Red Devil’s executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward has to bring in 5 or 6 top players to take United to its old charisma. He added, "Ed Woodward has an awful lot to prove this time that he's good enough at his job. He has to bring the players in that the new manager wants. If he doesn't, we are not going to get anywhere near the top."
