Piatek gets off to a flying start on first Milan start
What's the story?
A few days ago, young Polish Striker, Krzysztof Piatek joined AC Milan from Genoa for a fee of €35 million. The former Cracovia man signed a four-and-a-half year deal with the Rossoneri .
Piatek, after signing, was set to make his debut against Napoli in the Coppa Italia quarter final this evening. The Poland international did just that and showed why AC Milan paid €35 million for the 23 year old.
He started the game for Milan and ensured they ended the game heading into the semi finals. Piatek scored his first 2 goals for his new club as Milan won 2-0.
In case you didn't know
Piatek came on to the scene as an unknown prodigy after signing for Genoa from Polish side Cracovia for a fee of €4.5 million. He scored 32 goals in 65 games during his time in Krakow.
He came onto the world scene with a bang, scoring 8 goals in his first 6 Serie A games for Genoa. This scoring streak meant that he became the first player to emulate this feat since Karl Aage Hansen, who achieved this milestone in 1949-50 with Atalanta.
Hgis good form for the Genoese outfit was rewarded with an international call up. He scored on his competitive international debut in a 1-1 draw against Italy in the UEFA Nations League.
Heart of the matter
With the excellent start he has made, Piatek showed the San Siro faithful what they can look forward to.
Milan fans will have already been excited to see their new man in action after he had already scored 19 goals in 21 games for Genoa in all competitions this season. However, after his stellar performance in the cup which included two well taken goals, Milan fans will be even more excited about their new acquisition.
If Piatek can continue this form for Milan, €35 million will be a steal for someone who isn't even in their prime yet, at 23 years of age.
What's next?
Piatek and Milan travel to the Italian capital to face Roma, in what is surely going to be an enticing encounter in Serie A. Milan can also look forward to their tie in the semi finals, as Gattuso goes searching for his first piece of silverware in charge of Milan.
Piatek will be looking to continue his goal scoring form in the hope of challenging Juventus' Cristiano Ronaldo for the Serie A golden boot. Piatek has 13 goals in the league currently, two less than the former Real Madrid man.
