La Liga 2016/17: Gerard Pique, Andres Iniesta and Sergio Ramos exchange tweets before El Clasico
The El Clasico is easily one of football’s most eagerly awaited clashes, and fans of both Real Madrid and Barcelona, as well as neutrals all over the world, eagerly wait for this match every season. With just 2 points separating both the sides right now, this year’s Clasico might just play a deciding role on which team gets to lift the title at the end.
Before the game kicks off, however, players from both the Catalans and the Galacticos exchanged a series of tweets wishing each other well. All tweets were in Spanish and were translated by FC Barcelona’s official website.
Andres Iniesta, who has been the maestro in the indomitable Barca midfield for a few years now, tweeted saying, “Finishing the week with a good feeling having worked hard, not bad.” The Spanish stalwart has been out of action following a heavy challenge from Valencia’s Enzo Perez since 22nd October.

This led Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos, who is also recovering from a severe injury picked up during international duty in early October, to respond saying, “See you at the Clásico? Hopefully, we'll both make it. Keep going.”
In this friendly atmosphere, Barca defender Gerard Pique chipped in saying, “We'll all be there, hope the best team wins.” Pique himself has also been working with the physios after picking up a knock against Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium.
Ramos, however, tried to introduce some banter to the thread, replying, “Obviously we are expecting you to be there as well! However, the three points are ours #ElClásico”.
Iniesta however, did not take the bait and responded, “Thanks and hopefully we all make it @3gerardpique, #ElClasico deserves it!! Let’s not talk about the points.”
With the big game approaching, one expects the players to be full of trash talk, but that hasn’t been the case. It is nice to see such sportsmanlike behaviour off the field, but one knows that on the pitch, all friendly behaviour will be forgotten for the 90 minutes.
The El Clasico is scheduled to be played on 3rd December at the Nou Camp. Real Madrid currently lead the La Liga table with 27 points, while Barcelona are second with 25.
