Andrea Pirlo claims Juventus were justified in selling Paul Pogba to Manchester United

Paul Pogba’s transfer to Manchester United was the biggest story of the summer

Former Juventus star midfielder Andrea Pirlo believes that the club’s decision to sell Paul Pogba to Manchester United was certainly right and that Juventus certainly struck a bargain for the young midfielder. The Italian champions had completed the transfer of the young France international to Manchester United for a world record fee of £90 million.

"It was the right choice when you look at the players who came in," Pirlo told Sky. "After such a great transfer window, I think Juventus are now built to win everything.

Pirlo had set up a strong midfield partnership with Pogba while at the club winning four Serie A titles in four seasons.

Juventus have gotten off to a great start in Serie A after three consecutive wins in the league. And the legendary midfielder believes that Massimiliano Allegri has brought an impressive set of players to the club. Pirlo also went on to say that Juventus has the capability to win major trophies this season with the reinforcements Massimiliano has brought through in the transfer window with help of Pogba sale.

"Looking from the outside, the Italian championship isn't that bad, but the transfer market showed that Juve are above everyone. It's like the French league. Juve are in a separate competition - at least, that's what the transfer window suggested. They're like PSG."

The Italian also backed former Juventus boss, Antonio Conte, to be very successful at Chelsea after having won three League titles under the manager at Juventus.

"I'm glad Conte has started out very well and I'm sure he'll have a great season," he said. "He has passion, determination and he's a football teacher. He has everything to be the best."

Pirlo was also widely in the talks with a move away from America after speculated interest from Inter Milan hoping that the Italian would be interested in a move back to Italy.

"Inter's management did make inquiries," he added. "But I decided to stay at New York City. I'd made this decision and turning back didn't seem right."

Andrea Pirlo is one of the most decorated midfielders in world football having played for Inter Milan, AC Milan and Juventus in the past. Pirlo had also won the FIFA World Cup with Italy in 2006. The Italian currently plays for New York City FC in Major League Soccer.
