EPL 2016/17: Manchester United 1-1 West Ham United - Player ratings

Ibrahimovic equalised with a header

Manchester United went four home games without a win for the first time this season after they shared the spoils with West Ham United in a 1-1 draw.

It was the Hammers who took the lead early on when Diafra Sakho nodded in Dimitri Payet’s pin point free kick. The home side replied through Zlatan Ibrahimovic who headed in at the other end to equalise. Despite controlling possession and threatening the West Ham goal, United simply could not find a winner. Jose Mourinho was sent to the stands after improper conduct on the touchline to add further misery to a dismal day for the Red Devils.

Manchester United

David De Gea: 5/10

De Gea barely had a save to make for most of the game, with his only noteworthy contribution a save to keep out Ashley Fletcher’s effort, which he managed with ease.

Antonio Valencia: 6/10

Valencia provided a lot of width down Manchester United’s right flank, while also whipping in a number of good deliveries. Payet did cause him a few problems in defence but the Ecuadorian looked up to the task.

Phil Jones: 6.5/10

Jones started in only his third league game this season but has already brought some stability at the back for the Red Devils. He has formed a good partnership with Rojo at centre-back in recent weeks although he will be disappointed to concede yet again.

Marcos Rojo: 6/10

It was one of Rojo’s better performances in a United shirt after a solid defensive performance. The Argentine is deputising for the injured Chris Smalling and he did an excellent job of keeping the West Ham strikers at bay.

Matteo Darmian: 4/10

Darmian showed signs of vulnerability against an impressive Michail Antonio. The Englishman gave Darmian a torrid time down the right flank and the Italian simply had no answers.

Ander Herrera: 4/10

The Spaniard was far from his usual best after a poor display at home. Herrera conceded numerous fouls in the game while he also gave away possession cheaply a few times.

Paul Pogba: 7/10

The Frenchman provided a peach of a pass for Ibrahimovic’s leveller and constantly shielded the ball well despite the West Ham midfielders closing him down whenever possible. He moved into a deeper role as United chased a winner.

Jesse Lingard: 6/10

Lingard was guilty of conceding the cheap free kick that led to West Ham’s goal in the opening minute of the game. He had an otherwise decent outing but provided no meaningful threat to the Hammers goal. He had a goal disallowed for offside in the first half.

Juan Mata: 5/10

Mata couldn’t really manage to get into the game and was forced to drop deeper to get possession of the ball. The Spaniard did not provide any attacking threat and was withdrawn midway through the second half.

Marcus Rashford: 5/10

The youngster missed a golden chance in the first half after he was put through on goal. It wasn’t Rashford’s best performance in a Manchester United shirt and he was taken off after the hour mark.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic: 7/10

The towering striker levelled the scores with a deft but accurate header in the opening half. He was heavily involved in his side’s attacks but was well marshalled by Collins and Ogbonna.

Substitutes

Wayne Rooney: 6/10

The United skipper had a positive impact on the game looking determined to earn his side a victory. Rooney delivered a few enticing balls into the box late on but to no avail.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan: 4/10

The Armenian replaced Mata in the second half but had a very limited impact in the game.

Marouane Fellaini: N/A

Fellaini came on for the final few minutes of the 90 to provide height in the box as United pushed on for a winner.
