FC Pune City won the first Maharashtra derby in ISL 2015 3-1 comfortably against a depleted Mumbai City FC team.
David Platt’s boys were instrumental throughout the game, sticking on to their strategy whereas Mumbai lacked creatively especially in the attacking zone.
Young Israil Gurung was the star for Pune with two assists for Tuncay Sanli and a goal for himself. Frédéric Piquionne scored one for the Mumbai side in the first half although it was not enough for them to get any point from the match.
Here are the player ratings from the match:
FC Pune City
Simonsen- 7/10
Brilliant display from the experienced English keeper. Made a number of good saves, especially Asutosh Mehta’s volley from a corner in the second half. He sure looks a good buy by the Pune franchise team.
Gourmangi Singh- 6.5/10
He was rock solid in the central defense of FC Pune City today. He played well, winning headers, 50-50 balls and covered Piquionne efficiently throughout the game.
Diego Daniel Collotto- 7.5/10
A standout performance from the experienced defender who has played more than 100 La Liga games in his career in Spain. The way he marked the dangerous Sony Norde in the second half was exceptional.
Nick Shorey- 7/10
Although starting in the defensive midfield position, he gradually shifted to his preferred left-back position in the second half. He was subdued in the first quarter of the match playing in the midfield. Defensively he was brilliant, and it was because of him that Mumbai City FC hardly could utilize the left side of the field in the second half.
Gurjinder Kumar- 4.5/10
The only poor performer in today’s game, Gurjinder made a number of mistakes. He was not able to handle Mumbai’s attacks from the left in the first half. He even received a needless yellow card in the dying minutes of the match for a reckless challenge.
Didier Zokora- 6.5/10
The experienced Ivory Coast midfielder was defensively strong throughout the second half. For the maximum period of the match, he played as the fifth defender although he kept covering the defensive midfielder position also.
James Bailey- 5/10
Bailey was not up to the mark and had to be substituted right after the halftime break. He was not able to hold on to the Central midfield area and kept losing his position. He might require more time to gel with the conditions.
Manish Maithani- 5.5/10
Starting as a central midfielder he tried moving forward through the wings in order to help Israil Gurung. He was not as instrumental as Gurung and made a lot of mistakes. He was beaten repeatedly by Sony Norde effortlessly throughout the first half.
Lenny Rodriguez- 7/10
Lenny was excellent for most of the match barring a few minutes right before the halftime. He played through the wing moving up and coming back to support both the defense and the attack of the team.
Israil Gurung- 8.5/10
The standout performer in today’s game, he should have been given the man of the match award. Playing from the right wing he was exceptional, playing inch perfect crosses which were converted easily by Tuncay. His sudden bursts of speed and long crosses from the right bombarded the Mumbai defense. He even scored a brilliant goal in the second half.
Tuncay Sanli- 7.5/10
Other than two opportunist headers, he played his heart out, playing in almost every position for his team today. His endless runs on and off the ball inspired the young lads in the team to fight. The experienced Turkish legend was a leader on the field. He was substituted in the 61st minute by marquee striker Adrian Mutu.
Subs:
Y. Ruiz- 6/10
Ruiz had to substitute Bailey who was extremely poor, in the halfway point of the match. Ruiz held the ball and distributed short passes for the wingers and the strikers. He was an effective change as he brought in more creativity for the Pune team in the second half.
Adrian Mutu- 5.5/10
The marquee striker was average. He tried his best to associate himself with every single attacking move of the team. He was involved in the third goal of the team; however, he missed a sitter from close range in the last minutes of the match.
Sushant Mathew- N/A
He hardly got a chance to participate in any moves as he was introduced for a few minutes right at the end of the game.
