Police dismiss allegations of racial abuse directed at AC Milan's Kevin Constant

No evidence for racial abuse at AC Milan defender Kevin Constant

Having had a look at the television footage and the evidence collected from officers and stewards who were inside the stadium during the pre-season match between AC Milan and Sassuolo in Reggio Emilia last month, the police have claimed that there is nothing to justify Milan defender Kevin Constant’s allegations of racial abuse directed at him by the crowd.

With the teams level at 1-1, Constant, alleged that he was racially abused by the crowd, kicked the ball into the crowd and walked off the pitch ignoring Milan’s attempts to persuade him to continue playing.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport, the findings said: “There was only sporadic abusive language from normal spectators and not from organised fan groups.

“Some Sassuolo fans were inciting the player Constant not to waste time with a throw-in, shouting: ‘Come on, move it’ and: ‘Get a move on.’

“One Sassuolo fan in particular shouted: ‘Come on salami, get a move on’ while another said: ‘Get a nose job.”

Juventus were also fined for their fans’ racist chants at Milan players. But, the police report dismissed those claims as well, saying: “It was just a general disturbance aimed at all Milan penalty-takers by the Juventus fans”.

Earlier this week, the Italian Football Association (FIGC) had fined Sassuolo €30,000 for directing racially discriminatory shouts at Kevin Constant based on the match referee Andrea Gervasoni’s report.
