Portugal Euro 2016 kit released: See photos of Cristiano Ronaldo in the new kit
Euro 2016 is just around the corner and football fans all over the world are waiting with bated breath for the celebration of the “beautiful game” in France.
Portugal, who are one of the dark horses in the tournament and the runners-up in 2004 will look to defy the odds and take home the trophy they missed out on, in 2004. The Portuguese football fans will hope they win their first major trophy in France and the onus will be on Cristiano Ronaldo to create history by winning the prize that eluded him in Portugal in 2004. But before Portugal kick start their Euro campaign let’s see what they will be wearing in Euro 2016.
Portugal’s Home Kit
The new home kit designed by Nike for Euro 2016 will see the Portugal team adore a lighter shaded of maroon (bordering on red) along with their green. They played their first international game in the new home kit against Bulgaria in a friendly, also recently wore in against England. The new Portugal home shirt combines the darker shade of red with a maroonish colour on the sleeves. A band of light green is used around the collar and a single strip of the same colour runs down on either side of the shirt.
‘Nacao’ and ‘Valente’ meaning Nation and Brave in Portuguese are knit inside the cuffs and inside of the shirt reveals an Armillary sphere, which is a storied navigation tool and is used in the kit to pay homage to Portugal’s nautical heritage. The home kit also features a mesh pattern in the front which gives a modern look to the new home shirt.
The shorts will be of the same colour as the shirt with a band of light green running down on each side and green socks complete the Euro 2016 home kit.
Portugal’s Away Kit
The away kit is based on the same template as the home kit and the luminous green outfit designed by Nike is different from previous designs and the away kit design is symbolic to the bright future of the Portugal national team.
Nike just like the home kit has combined the light turquoise colour with a darker shade of the colour for the stripe designs on the sleeves and the logos. And just like the home kit the away kit also boasts of an elaborate mesh pattern on the shirt to give the away kit a modern look. A darker shade of turquoise band runs down on either side of the shirt.
