Portugal vs Slovenia Head-to-Head stats and numbers you need to know before Match 42 of UEFA Euro 2024

Portugal and Slovenia return to action in UEFA Euro 2024 when they square off at Deutsche Bank Park in the round of 16 on Monday. Matjaz Kek’s men are making their first-ever appearance in the knockout stages at a major tournament and will look to cause an upset.

Portugal were left stunned in their Group F finale as they suffered a 2-0 defeat against Georgia at the Veltins-Arena last Wednesday.

Napoli star Khvicha Kvaratskhelia opened the scoring inside the opening 120 minutes to put Georgia in front before Georges Mikautadze doubled their lead with a 57th-minute penalty.

However, victories over Czech Republic and Turkey in their opening two games saw Roberto Martínez’s men finish as Group F winners, just above second-placed Turkey on goal difference.

Slovenia, on the other hand, turned in a defensive show of class in their final group-stage game as they held England to a goalless draw at the RheinEnergieStadion last Tuesday.

The draw against England was enough to see Kek’s men through to the knockout stages as they finished third in Group C with three points from three games.

Slovenia head into Monday’s showdown unbeaten in nine consecutive matches across all competitions and will be looking to cause an upset at Deutsche Bank Park.

This will be the second-ever encounter between Portugal and Slovenia, with Kek’s side claiming a 2-0 friendly victory in their first meeting back in March.

In that encounter, Adam Gnezda Čerin and Olimpija midfielder Timi Max Elšnik scored quick-fire goals in the second half to hand Slovenia the win over the Selecao.
