Arsenal 5-1 Everton: Player Ratings
Arsenal might've lost Alexis Sanchez to rivals in the transfer window, but have made a statement with their strong performance against Everton at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday. Their new signings, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Pierre Emerick Aubameyang, impressed massively on their home debuts.
Aaron Ramsey scored a brilliant hat-trick for the Gunners and Aubameyang marked his Premier League debut with a clinically finished goal. Arsenal thrashed Everton 5-1 on the day, with captain Laurent Koscielny also claiming a goal.
Here are the player ratings from the encounter:
Everton
Jordan Pickford: 4/10
Though five goals were slammed past him in the game, there was little Pickford could do about them. He was exposed brutally due to the shambolic defending in front of him. He was one on one with Aubameyang in the first half but managed to stop Arsenal's new signing from scoring on that chance.
Jonjoe Kenny 3/10
The right-back was unable to contain the Arsenal attack throughout the 90 minutes. He was static on a number of occasions and let the gunners swoop into the box with ease. He did not put in tackles wherever required and was unable to emulate the inspired performance that Seamus Coleman put in against Leicester in the same position last week.
Cuco Martina 4/10
Martina was just as bad as the rest of the defensive unit but was decent going forward. He assisted Dominic Calvert-Lewin with his cross. He still needs to do a lot more defensively, he looked shaky in the middle and left too much space for the Arsenal attackers to invade.
Michael Keane 3/10
The English defender looked like a statue in the middle. He did not handle his charges well enough and gave the Arsenal players too much room to cause problems. He cleared the ball with a couple of well-placed headers in the second half, but could not be the steadfast force Everton desperately needed.
Ashley Williams 3/10
The captain of the side is supposed to inspire the team by leading from the front during horrific performances. However, Williams himself was a huge let down at the Emirates on Saturday. Mesut Ozil toyed with him throughout the game.
Eliaquim Mangala 2/10
He was probably the worst player on the field yesterday. His mistake led to Laurent Koscielny's goal in the first half of the game. Everton's new loan signing should've created an impact in the middle, but looked clueless on most occasions. He was also on the slower side and he was handled well by Granit Xhaka and Aaron Ramsey.
Idrissa Gueye 3/10
He could have no impact on the game whatsoever and did not trouble the Arsenal players at all. His man-marking was poor and he just let the Gunners run past him effortlessly.
Morgan Schneiderlin 4/10
He looked decent in attack on a couple of occasions but was poor in guarding the defence behind him. He put in a dangerous cross into the Arsenal box in the 22nd minute, but there were no blue shirts close enough to the ball to take advantage of the same.
Theo Walcott 5/10
This was far from an ideal return to the Emirates Stadium for the Englishman. He tried to set things up with his pace and got an incredible opportunity to score in the first half of the game, but was denied the goal by an exceptional block from Shkodran Mustafi. He was substituted for Lewin seven minutes into the second half and walked off the pitch to thunderous applause from both sets of fans.
Yannick Bolasie 4/10
He tried hard to get into the Arsenal box and had two half-chances in the first half, but could not get over the line on both the occasions. He was dispossessed by Arsenal's defence more often than not and couldn't create an impact on the game in spite of his best efforts.
Oumar Niasse 5/10
He had one chance to make a dent in Arsenal's early lead, but could only hit the post with his strong strike. He was substituted for Cenk Tosun in the 78th minute of the game.
Substitutes
Tom Davies 6/10
The Everton attack looked more solid after he was brought on to the mix. He played an important role in the lead up to Lewin's goal.
Dominic Calvert Lewin 7/10
He scored the sole goal for Everton just minutes after coming on. Tried to make things happen in the attack, but was shut down effectively after his sole strike.
Cenk Tosun 5/10
He was brought on to the field in the last few minutes and did not have too much to do. He gets a standard 5.
