Premier League statistical team of the season (2015/2016)
The Premier League has been done and dusted and what a season it has been. Leicester City emerged out of nowhere to capture the Premier League title and made this a season to remember. The season was full of twists and turns with only one of the traditional top 4 actually making it to the Champions League.
The PFA team of the year has already been picked, however, if we consider only cold hard statistics, there are quite a few surprising inclusions and omissions. We pick a team only based on statistics taken from the EA SPORTS Player Performance Index, and here are the results:
Goalkeeper
The younger Schmeichel played all 38 games for his side, making crucial saves to keep the Foxes ahead of the pack and was always strong between the posts. The Danish shot-stopper is the highest rated goalkeeper on the performance index, finishing comfortably ahead of PFA selected goalkeeper David De Gea.
Schmeichel has been rock solid, reliable and has been a key member of this historic Leicester City squad. According to the index, the closest competitor to Schmeichel is Tottenham’s Hugo Lloris followed by golden glove winner Petr Cech and Watford’s Heurelho Gomes.
Surprisingly, Manchester United’s goalkeeper David De Gea is languishing in 5th place and Schmeichel is way ahead of his competitors if we only consider the statistics.
