21 games into the Premier League, which means we’re just over halfway through the season which has gone amazingly quick. Here’s my Premier League team of the season so far. I’ve gone with a 4-4-2 formation.

Simon Mignolet (Liverpool)

Tough one here, but I had to go with Mignolet finally. His eye catching performances at the start of the season made a few call him the signing of the season. Certainly saved his side a couple of points on match day one when he saved Jon Walters’ penalty. Besides that he’s kept out almost everything shot at him! Liverpool have had their share of defensive injuries and aren’t always stable at the back. That’s where Mignolet has stepped up and has played an important part in keeping Liverpool in the top 4.

Seamus Coleman (Everton)

Right back or rather right winger. What a season it has been for the Irishman. Excellent work rate with excellent finishing has made him the top scoring defender this season. Perfect for a full back. Next Gareth Bale anybody?

Per Mertesacker (Arsenal)

When Mertesacker joined Arsenal two seasons back, he wasn’t the same player he currently is. They say the foreign players need time to adapt to the different conditions and that took Mertesacker almost a season. But last season was much better for him and this season is even better! He’s become a much more confident player now and has also been entrusted captaincy by Wenger a few times. He’ll be making his 100th appearance for Arsenal today.

John Terry (Chelsea)

His future looked bleak last season after Suarez’s challenge on him ruined the 2nd half of his season. But this season, Mourinho’s brought him back into the starting XI and like always, John Terry has put in a captains performance for which he credits Mourinho. One of the very few defenders in the Premier league with so many top individual honours.

Leighton Baines (Everton)

Easy decision really. Despite missing out on six league games this season due to injury, Baines has been a lot better than other left backs this season. His free kick taking ability makes him an even stronger contender. From season to season Baines has moved from strength to strength.
