Premier League: Wolves fans troll Liverpool supporters with fake chants of Manchester City's 'defeat'
What's the story?
Fans of Wolverhampton Wanderers were caught trolling the Liverpool brigade when they faced one another in their final Premier League game of the season.
In case you didn't know
Manchester City emerged as the Premier League champions of a long and intense title battle after they established a thumping 4-1 win over Brighton earlier today.
The Manchester outfit went down 1-0 to the hosts in the first half before Sergio Aguero, Aymeric Laporte, Riyad Mahrez, and Ilkay Gundogan all found the net to help the club lift their second consecutive Premier League title.
While Pep Guardiola's men won the league at the American Express Community Stadium, Liverpool played host to the Wolverhampton Wanderers in a game that saw them establish a 2-0 win over their visitors.
The Reds' win, however, went in vain owing to a crucial advantage City had in the form of a single point going into their final game. The Cityzens won the title with 98 points and had Liverpool won the league, they would have done so with 97 points.
The heart of the matter
Amidst the tension earlier today, Wolves fans were found spreading fake information about Manchester City's clash with Brighton to give Liverpool supporters some false hope, reports The Sun.
The same group of supporters was also heard taunting Liverpool and chanting "Raheem Sterling, he's top of the league" during the game.
What's next?
While Liverpool missed out on their first-ever Premier League title, it is no doubt that no matter who had won between the two competitors, the tag 'champions of England' would have gone to a deserving team.
Manchester City will now look toward their FA Cup final against Watford on May 18 while Liverpool will prepare for their gigantic Champions League final against Tottenham Hotspur on June 1.
