Premier League’s most prolific dribbler set to make his England debut
Tottenham winger Andros Townsend will handed his international debut in tonight’s crunch match against Montenegro as England look to secure qualification for the 2014 World Cup, according to the Daily Mail.
The newspaper claims that the 22-year-old will be rewarded for his excellent recent form, with a spot in Roy Hodgson’s starting line-up for what is a crucial game as England chase a place at Brazil 2014.
Townsend’s first cap is the result of a sensational start to the season with his club, and he is expected to be deployed on the right-wing with Danny Welbeck the opposite flank.
The Daily Mail also claims that there is no place for Jack Wilshere or Michael Carrick in the starting XI as Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard reprise their partnership in central midfield.
Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney will also play alongside in-form Liverpool forward Daniel Sturridge as part of a two-man attack against the Montenegrins tonight.
But Rooney’s club team-mate Tom Cleverley will not play as the FA confirmed his withdrawal due to injury while Manchester City midfielder James Milner is also a doubt.
Townsend has been in spectacular form for Spurs this season, successfully taking on his man an incredible 33 times in six games this season – the highest in the Premier League.
