PSG attempts to lure Rafael Benitez
After a successful spell at Stamford Bridge, Rafa Benitez is a man in demand. Recent reports suggest that the Spaniard is wanted by French League champions, Paris St. Germain, to replace Madrid-bound Carlo Ancelotti.
Benitez , currently in America, is set to take charge of his final two games as Chelsea manager in a double-header against Manchester City in an end-of-season tour after which he will be released by the club.
Napoli are also said to be interested in his services.
Despite having to play out 48 games in 175 days, dealing with dressing room unrest, and an unbalanced squad, the former Liverpool boss remained focused on his job and finished off on a high by winning the Europa League and finishing third in the league.
Current PSG manager Carlo Ancelotti recently expressed his desire to leave the club and join Real Madrid.
“My wish is to leave the club,” said the 53-year-old after meeting PSG president Nasser al-Khelaifi.
“I have asked to leave. We are going to wait for a response from the club who are going to take a few days to decide.”
Under Ancelotti, PSG won their first league title since 1994.
PSG, owned by Qatar Investment Authority, would suit Benitez perfectly. The expensively-assembled squad proved their worth under Ancelotti and with further funds being made available for summer tranfers, Benitez would relish the chance to take over at the Park des Princes
