PSG stay top of Group F despite Barcelona's big win in the Champions League
Paris, Nov 26 (IANS) French Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain claimed a comfortable 3-1 victory over Ajax at the Parc des Princes here, keeping atop of Champions League Group F.
Edinson Cavani opened scoring for the home side in the 33rd minute when the Uruguay striker received a cross from winger Ezequiel Lavezzi and tapped it into the empty net, reports Xinhua.
Midfielder Davy Klaassen scored a deserved equaliser for Ajax midway through the second half, picked out inside the area by a brilliant cross by teenage forward Ricardo Kishna from the left and diving in to head past Salvatore Sirigu at the near post.
Eleven minutes later, PSG restored the lead through Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who chested down a pass from Javier Pastore inside the area and twisted, with his back turned to goal, to volley a shot in at the far post.
With Barcelona thrashing APOEL 4-0 in Cyprus, the eventual group leaders will now be decided in a head-to-head in the final round at Camp Nou Dec 10 when Ajax need to avoid defeat at home to APOEL to secure third.
PSG and Barcelona, however, have secured their respective berths to last 16 of the elite European championship earlier this month with two rounds of matches remaining.
The Parisians are now unbeaten in their last 13 matches at home in the UEFA Champions League. Their last defeat came against CSKA Moskva back in 2004.
