PSG signs Edinson Cavani for a French record of €64m

Paris Saint-Germain have unveiled Edinson Cavani as their new-record signing from Italian side Napoli on Tuesday in a press conference.

The 26-year-old striker Uruguayan international, Cavani, who had been linked with Real Madrid, Chelsea and Manchester City, will join the club in a Ligue 1 French record transfer of €64 million; just days after Monaco paid €60 million to sign Radamel Falcao from Atletico Madrid.

The Uruguay forward arrived in Paris on Monday and met his agent, Pierpaolo Triulzi, and PSG deputy sporting director Olivier Letang, who, after Leonardo’s announcement that he will leave PSG after this transfer window on September 2, was in charge of getting this deal through. He then underwent a three-hour medical at the Pitie-Salpetriere hospital.

PSG President Nasser Al Khelaifi returned from Doha on Tuesday morning to present Cavani to the press.

Edinson Cavani ended last season as Serie A’s top goal-scorer with 29 league goals as Napoli finished in second spot, 9 points short of eventual winners Juventus.
