PSV crush Ajax 4-0 to lead Eredivisie
The Hague, Sep 23 (IANS) PSV Eindhoven took first place in the Dutch Eredivisie by beating rivals Ajax 4-0 while former league leaders PEC Zwolle lost 0-3 to Vitesse Arnhem.
Tim Matavz opened the scoring in the 53rd minute Sunday after a mistake by Ajax goalkeeper Kenneth Vermeer, reports Xinhua.
Jetro Willems added a second with a deflected shot by Niklas Moisander. Oscar Hiljemark made it three with a beautiful strike and Park Ji-Sung produced the fourth goal in the 68th minute.
“This was a collective failure,” Ajax coach Frank de Boer said afterwards.
“Until the 0-1 we had control. Out of nothing they score. After that we played like amateurs.”
After six official matches without a victory, PSV finally managed to win again.
“If everybody wants to work for each other, we can get results,” said PSV coach Phillip Cocu.
“It was a good team performance.”
