PSV defender Brenet claims that his side will 'eat Messi, Suarez and Neymar alive'

PSV defender Joshua Brenet hopes to get Barcelona in the Champions League draw

In what is an obvious display of unshackled bravado, PSV defender Joshua Brenet claimed that his side would comfortably beat a Barcelona side containing the exalted trio of Messi, Suarez and Neymar. The Dutch right-back was obviously ecstatic after PSV Eindhoven beat CSKA Moscow to go through to the knockout stages at the expense of Manchester United.

The Dutch side had to overcome going a goal down to defeat CSKA Moscow 2-1 at home. Sergei Ignashevich scored from the spot in the first half to give PSV a scare, but the Dutch side came back as Luuk de Jong equalised soon after. A Davy Propper goal late in the second half turned out to be a priceless match-winner, thus propelling PSV into the next round as the group’s surprise runner’s up, as Manchester United fell to Wolfsburg.

Referring to the Champions League draw, Brenet hoped to be drawn against Barcelona, since he is a huge fan.

"All of the clubs are big ones, but I'm a huge fan of Barcelona” the defender said.

"It would great to play against them, if not in this round then the one after that, in the semi-finals or in the final.

"We'll eat Messi, Neymar and Suárez alive," he then claimed, perhaps jocularly.

Messi, Suarez and Neymar have a legitimate claim to be the best ever attacking trio

Brenet’s comment is sure to be recognized as the absurdist humour that it is, however things might get lost in translation when they’re relayed back to MSN. The trio do not lack for motivation, but might be hoping for Barcelona to draw PSV, so that they can feast on Brenet instead.

Despite Messi’s absence, Suarez and Neymar have carried on in scintillating form, yet Barcelona will be pleased to see Messi return from injury. The trio have carried on where they left off, interlinking wondfully in the games against Real Sociedad and Valencia. They have racked up 43 goals between them this season already, and are in line to break more records as the season progresses.

Messi and Neymar have both been nominated for the Ballon d’Or, while Suarez missed out due to Cristiano Ronaldo’s stagerring form last season. However, as a trio they have no comparison, and will not fear any club that’s drawn with them in the next stage of the Champions League, despite Brenet’s hyperbolic claims.
