Puma unveil Borussia Dortmund new home jersey with 80,645 flowers!

Puma yesterday unveiled the new yellow and black home jersey for the 2013/14 season for Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund, who hope to challenge Bayern Munich for the league title and German Cup, while also playing a good role in the UEFA Champions League.

But it wasn’t just the jersey launch but rather what Puma did in the nearby Westfalenpark.

Borussia Dortmund’s kit supplier Puma launched the new BVB home kit – in the form of a huge shirt created out of 80,645 flowers. The yellow eye-catcher, planted on an area of 1,000 square metres, can be admired in Dortmund’s Westfalenpark, with Dortmund’s Florian Tower offering the best view on the floral shirt and in the view the Signal Iduna Park in the background.

The number of flowers – 80,645 - was taken as it is the exact capacity of the BVB home Signal Iduna Park, which makes this massive marketing exercise from Puma even more special.

Matthias Bäumer, General Manager Puma, said, “There were few teams last season that captured the emotions of the football world more than Borussia Dortmund. The great domestic and international radiance can be summed up easily: pace, an extreme joy of playing, creativity and a lot of passion. We are proud to be BVB’s partner and are looking forward to a successful new season where we want to thrill the fans with great products and exhilarating campaigns.”

The gigantic BVB floral shirt will be on display until July 9 and the club invites the BVB fans to come to the Westfalenpark. On Tuesday, July 9 from 5pm onwards the flowers will be given away as a good luck charm for the new season.

BVB chairman Hans-Joachim Watzke said, “The creativity and fervour, with which Puma organises their BVB campaigns, is really impressive. The spectacular pictures from the Westfalenpark have caused a furore at our Austrian training camp and sparked very positive feedback from coaches, players and fans.”

“Borussia Dortmund’s new home kit is a symbiosis of modern design and traditional BVB elements. I’m sure that it will be a fitting outfit for the typical full throttle events the team is intending to show on a regular basis at Signal Iduna Park in 2013/2014,” Watzke added.
