Liverpool are one of the most successful clubs in the English football. They currently boast 51 major trophies in their trophy cabinet, including 19 league titles and six European Cups.

The Reds fans are considered among the best in the world and often treat their managers like gods. Anfield have had some legendary managers in the dugout over the years. We look at the three best Liverpool managers in their history.


#3 Jurgen Klopp

Jurgen Klopp is arguably the greatest coach to manage Liverpool in the modern era. He took charge at Anfield in October 2015 following the sacking of Brendan Rodgers.

The German transformed the Anfield outfit from a club struggling to finish in the UEFA Champions League spots to a team regularly competing for top honors. The Reds won one Premier League title, one UEFA Champions League trophy, two EFL Cups, one FA Cup, one FA Community Shield, one FIFA Club World Cup and one FIFA Club World Cup under his leadership.

Klopp won the LMA Manager of the Year twice and was also named Premier League Manager of the Month on 10 separate occasions. He will leave Liverpool after nearly nine successful years this week and will be replaced by Dutch manager Anre Slot next season.

Bob Paisley is the most decorated manager in Liverpool history. The Englishman served as the Reds' assistant between 1959 and 1973 before taking charge as a first-team manager in 1974.

Paisley helped the Anfield outfit win 20 major trophies, including six English League titles and three European Cups. He won the Football Manager of the Year award six times and was named Fourth Greatest Manager of All Time by ESPN in 2013.

The former left-half stepped down as Liverpool's boss in 1983 and didn't manage any other club after leaving the Reds.


#1 Bill Shankly

Bill Shankly is widely considered the greatest coach ever to manage the Reds. He took over at Anfield in 1959 after managing Carlisle Town, Grimsby Town, Workington and Huddersfield Town respectively.

The Reds got promoted back to the first division under his guidance and the foundation for the Reds' most successful spell was also laid during his tenure. Shankly helped the Merseyside-based club to 10 major trophies, including three English League Titles and one European Cup.

Shankly won the Manager of the Year award in 1972-73 and also ranked 10th in the list of greatest Managers of all All-Time compiled by ESPN in 2013.
