Ranking of Indian teams in various sports Part -1
Indian archery team
Indian women’s recurve archery team, who recently won the gold medal at the World Cup stage-4 at Wroclaw, Poland after defeating Olympic gold-medallist and world no.1 Korea, are currently World No. 2 in the latest FITA World Rankings. Indian women’s recurve team will next play in the Archery World Cup final which will be held in Paris from September 21 -22.
Indian men’s recurve archery team’s performance in the recently concluded World Cup was not that good as they lost to U.S.A in the quarterfinals and as a consequence, they are now World No. 9 in the rankings.
In compound section Indian men’s team is at 7th place while women’s team is at 9th place.
Indian football team
The Indian men’s football team, with a total of 177 points, are currently ranked 145th in the world out of 209 nations, while within Asia, India remain 25th amongst 46 nations in the rankings.
India have fared better than neighbours Bangladesh (158), Pakistan (167), Nepal (170), Sri Lanka (171) and Bhutan (207) but the Indian team is behind Afghanistan (139) and the People’s Republic of China (95).
Indian women’s football team are currently at the 50th position with a total of 1431 points in the latest FIFA World Rankings.
Indian cricket team
After winning the ICC Champions Trophy in June and then thrashing Zimbabwe 5-0, Indian team’s ODI ranking has improved a lot and they are currently no. 1 with a total rating of 123 in the latest ICC ODI rankings.
After thrashing the Australian team 4-0 in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Feb-Mar, the Indian team’s Test ranking has also improved. Team India with a total rating of 116 are at 3rd place in the latest ICC Test rankings.
In the T20 format of the game, Indian team is at 3rd position behind Sri Lanka and Pakistan.
Indian women’s cricket team are at fourth place in ODIs and at fifth place in the T20 format.
Indian basketball team
Indian men’s basketball team, who finished 11th out of 15 teams at the recently concluded Asian Championships are currently ranked 58th in the world out of 84 countries. Indian team is at 11th position in the Asian region.
The Indian women’s basketball team are in a much better position and are currently at 40th position with 14.1 points. In the Asian region, the Indian women’s team are on 6th position behind China, Korea, Japan, Chinese Taipei and Malaysia.
In Junior World Rankings, Indian boys are currently at 43rd spot and girls are at 39th spot.
Indian volleyball team
Volleyball is quite a popular sport in India at schools and colleges and many tournaments are organised every year to promote the game.
But unfortunately, at the higher level, not many youngsters want to make their career in this game. This is why the ranking of Indian men’s and women’s volleyball team is not that impressive.
Indian men’s team, who finished third in China International Men’s Volleyball Tournament in May 2013, are currently ranked 30th in the world and sixth in Asia.
Indian women’s Volleyball team doesn’t even feature in the top 100 of the world rankings, and are currently ranked at the 103rd spot. Indian women’s team recently qualified for the final round of the Asian zonal qualification tournament, which will be held in Japan from September 4 to 8.
In Junior World Rankings, Indian boys who recently made it to the Quarterfinals of the U-21 World Championships in Ankara, Turkey, are currently at no. 16 in the world. Indian junior girls are ranked 29th in the world.
Indian rugby team
Rugby is not one of the popular sports in our country and as a result, the Indian team is one of the weakest. As per the latest World Rankings by IRB, Indian men’s team with a total of 39.36 points are currently at the 74th position out of 100-playing nations. Indian Rugby team, who were ranked 68th till Jan 2013, have not really improved in the recent months as shown by their downfall graph in the world rankings.
Till June 2013, the Indian team has played 37 matches out of which they have won 11, lost 25 and drawn one. Indian team have already failed to qualify for the 2015 World Cup, which will be held in England.
