Real Madrid 1-1 Manchester City: Player ratings for the Sky Blues as De Bruyne salvages a draw at the Bernabeu | UEFA Champions League 2022-23

Manchester City pegged back Real Madrid to a 1-1 draw in the first-leg of their Champions League semi-final clash at the Santiago Bernabeu on Tuesday, May 10.

Kevin De Bruyne equalized for the Sky Blues in the 67th minute after Vinicius Junior had opened the scoring for Los Blancos in the first half.

The Brazilian put the holders ahead with a spectular effort in the 36th minute as Thibaut Courtois kept out De Bruyne and Rodri.

Real Madrid came flying out of the blocks in the second half too and looked to increase their advantage. But De Bruyne made it 1-1 in the 67th minute with a lovely goal from outside the box.

Although chances were few and far between after that, Aurelien Tchouameni came really close to making it 2-1 for the holders with a dangerous strike from range. It required Ederson to make an important block.

The tie remains in balance ahead of the second-leg at the Etihad next Wednesday.

Here are the player ratings for Manchester City:

Ederson - 7/10

The City custodian made three saves in the game, including an excellent one on Aurelien Tchouameni in the closing stages of the game. Reliable as ever.

Kyle Walker - 6.5/10

Taking on forwards one-on-one is one of his strongest attributes, but Walker was soundly beaten by Vinicius on the day. To his credit, though, he still finished the game with five clearances and six tackles.

Ruben Dias - 6.5/10

The Portuguese defender brought his A game to the fore. His positioning was perfect and reading excellent. Dias' sliding intervention on Benzema in the 25th minute was truly remarkable. He made two clearances, two interceptions, and four tackles.

Manuel Akanji - 6.5/10

The Swiss international dealt superbly with Rodrygo, negating his influence in the game significantly.

John Stones - 7/10

He played in a more advanced midfield role but didn't relinquish his defensive duties, putting a stern resistance to Real Madrid's advancements.

Rodri - 7/10

The Spaniard had his moments in the game and even tested Courtois with a dangerous shot in the first half. He completed 95 percent of his passes, made two clearances, two tackles, and blocked one shot.

Bernardo Silva - 6/10

City's midfield maestro wasn't at his usual best tonight and even went into the books in the 86th minute for an ill-timed challenge on Vinicius.

Kevin De Bruyne - 8/10

The Belgian wizard was once again the creator-in-chief for the City. He laid 12 crosses and equalized for them with a superb long-range goal in the 67th minute.

Ilkay Gundogan - 7/10

He teed up De Bruyne for the equalizer and sent his team forward with 11 accurate long balls.

Jack Grealish - 7/10

With six key passes on the night, Grealish had a good match offensively, but he often came up short in his duels with Dani Carvajal.

Erling Haaland - 6/10

An uncharacteristically poor game for the in-form striker, who was kept quiet by David Alaba and Antonio Rudiger. He had two shots in the game, but neither could beat Courtois in goal.
