Reports: Real Madrid to bid for John Stones if Manchester United enquire for Varane
Real Madrid have their eyes on Everton defender John Stones if Manchester United come knocking on their door for Raphael Varane, reports the Star.
The Everton defender was heavily linked with a move to Chelsea this summer window and had placed a transfer request in order to join Jose Mourinho’s side. But the deal didn’t go through as Everton weren’t willing to sell the highly-rated youngster.
And last week itself, Stones made it clear that he was happy to stay with the Merseysiders and sign a new contract with the club provided that a £38 million release clause was built into the new contract. While most would think that this move was evidently made in order to complete a smooth switch to the Stamford Bridge next season, it seems Real Madrid may have entered the race to sign the England international.
Los Blancos themselves have a world class centre back in the form of Varane at their disposal but are considering to land Stones from Everton only if Manchester United are ready to bid for the French international.
The Red Devils have previously shown interest in the 22-year-old and Real manager Rafa Benitez is looking to bring in Stones as a replacement to the Frenchmen should United stump up enough cash to meet Real's asking price for their prized youngster.
Arsenal interested in signing Isco
Varane was brought in from Lens back in 2011 and since then he has made 68 appearances for the 10-time European champions. His breakthrough performance came against FC Barcelona in the 2012/13 Copa Del Rey El Clasico game where he announced himself to the world.
Since then, the 2014 Champions League winner has come a long way and has established himself as one of the world’s best centre-backs at such a young age but has found it difficult to be a regular in the starting XI with the presence of Sergio Ramos and Pepe.
Meanwhile, Arsenal have shown interest in signing one of Real Madrid’s gems Isco as reported by Spanish media outlet Fichajes. The Spaniard, who was purchased from Malaga two seasons back, has constantly fought for his place in the starting line-up and with players like James Rodriguez and Toni Kroos in the squad, it’s always going to be difficult for the 24-year-old.
And Arsene Wenger is hoping to capitalise on that aspect as he has asked the Emirates supremos to step up their pursuit for the talented Spanish midfielder.
Given Isco's uncertain status in the Real starting XI, the outlet reveals Wenger is keen to make his move sooner rather than later on the €50 million-rated man, as a star turn at the upcoming European Championships would almost certainly see that price tag rise.
