Rumour: Real Madrid could make astonishing bid for Luis Suarez

Just when Liverpool fans thought it was safe to open a newspaper again, the Luis Suarez transfer saga takes another twist. Whilst Suarez recently signed a new deal to remain at Anfield, the Metro report that Real Madrid may still make another move for the forward in the summer. Suarez’s new deal contains a release clause of £70 million, meaning that Real could be tempted to take the Uruguayan to the Bernabau in the summer.

The Spanish giants were keen on a move for Suarez in the summer – as were Arsenal – but were thwarted in their attempts as Liverpool stood firm. Arsenal infamously believed that they had sprung Suarez’s release clause when bidding £40,000,001, but saw their Premier League rivals stand firm amidst denials of the existence of such a clause.

Suarez’s new contract clears up the confusion by inserting a clear release clause, but negotiations led to a fee that was lower than the one initially envisaged by Liverpool. The club had wanted to insert a £100 million clause, but were forced to accept £70 million by Suarez’s representatives.

The Metro allege that Real may be tempted to return with a fresh move for Suarez – who has scored 20 Premier League goals this season – safe in the knowledge that they would have to part with less cash to land him than they did when buying Gareth Bale in the summer.
