Juventus’s bid to win this year’s UEFA Champions League was handed a huge blow following Wednesday’s 2-0 loss to Atletico Madrid. The Old Lady travelled to the Wanda Metropolitano beaming with confidence, with Cristiano Ronaldo in their corner.

However, the Portuguese watched on powerlessly as Diego Simeone’s men scored two goals in the last 15 minutes to snatch a famous victory. Ronaldo’s capture from Real Madrid last summer was supposed to be the final jigsaw in Juve’s Champions League pursuit.

Unfortunately, the Italian champions could head home early, having now fallen to a two-goal deficit after the round of 16 first-leg ties. Overturning such a result will not come easy, but it is definitely not beyond Juve, who nearly overturned a 3-0 deficit against Real Madrid during last season’s competition.

While the result was hard on Max Allegri’s side, it appears that rival fans, especially that of Ronaldo’s former club Real Madrid, enjoyed it most. Having watched supporters of the 34-year-old troll them all season, it was finally time for some payback.

In the aftermath of the game, Ronaldo riled up the Atletico Madrid fans by gesturing that he has won the Champions League five times. Of course, the gesture was not received well by the thousands inside the Wanda Metropolitano, who equally responded with a crescendo of boos.

But the real action was on Twitter, where many decided to troll the Portuguese in return. Knowing Ronaldo, he would definitely try to shut out his critics when the second leg comes up in Turin in three weeks’ time.

However, for now, the former Manchester United star has become the object of memes and trolls following Juve’s humiliating loss to Atletico Madrid.

Let’s take a look at some of the best tweets after the game:
