Real Madrid hero Iker Casillas snubs Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi as he picks Barcelona icon as best player to play for either club
Former legendary Real Madrid goalkeeper Iker Casillas has snubbed Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi as the best players to ever play for either Barcelona or Real Madrid.
Casillas picked late Argentine legend Diego Maradona as the best player to ever touch the pitch for one of the either club while speaking to GOAL. This would come as a surprise to a lot of football fans, as the Spanish shotstopper only played with and against Ronaldo and Messi during his playing days.
Iker Casillas played with Ronaldo in La Liga at Real Madrid. He played against Messi also in La Liga while the former was at Barcelona.
In this quickfire round, Casillas picked former Real Madrid player Raul over Samuel Eto’o in the first comparison question thrown at him. But he changed his choice in the second, picking Ronaldo Nazario over Raul. He subsequently picked Ronaldo Nazario over Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Michael Owen, Romario, David Beckham, Ronaldinho, Gareth Bale, Pedro, Gutiérrez Hernández, Rivaldo, and Karim Benzema.
He changed his choice when Zinedine Zidane was mentioned, as he picked the French midfielder over the Brazilian forward. However, Zidane didn’t last long as his top choice as he picked Diego Maradona over the former Real Madrid man. The shock came when Lionel and Cristiano Ronaldo were mentioned. The Spanish goalkeeper opined that Maradona was better than the Inter Miami man and the Portugal captain.
Rodri snubs Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo in the GOAT debate
Manchester City midfield maestro Rodri also believes that Lionel Messi and Cristiano are not the greatest players of all time. The Spanish midfielder picked fellow teammate Kevin de Bruyne as the GOAT.
Rodri, though currently injured, is one of the best players in the world at the moment. The 28-year-old is on Vinicius Jr.'s heels in the race for the 2024 Ballon d’Or. Rodri has been an integral part of Manchester City’s successes of late, and his goal against Inter Milan helped City win their first UEFA Champions League title.
When Rodri was asked by GOAL to name his GOAT, he didn't pick Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo but Kevin de Bruyne. Netherlands legend Marco van Basten is another player who snubbed Messi and Ronaldo in the GOAT debate. The Dutch striker picked named Brazilian legend Pele as the GOAT.
