Rumour: Real Madrid line up £70m for Liverpool forward Luis Suarez

Luis Suarez

Real Madrid are reportedly planning another big-money summer move and this time it is for Liverpool’s Luis Suarez, according to the Evening Standard.

The Uruguayan had a scintillating season for the Reds in 2013/14, helping Brendan Rodgers and his men to second place in the Premier League, in-turn securing Champions League football for the first time in five years. Suarez was the Premier League’s top goalscorer and without doubt had his best campaign in English football since arriving in 2011.

This seasons happiness for Suarez is a far cry from the back-end of last season when he was embroiled in transfer talk and in hot water with the authorities. The Uruguay international, who is his national sides main man at this summers World Cup, was banned for ten games last season and he spoke of his displeasure at life on Merseyside.

Suarez came close to joining Arsenal, but eventually stayed at Liverpool and despite his apparent desire to stay at the club, Real Madrid are ready to part with £70 million for his services.

The Los Blancos spent nearly £100 million on Gareth Bale last summer, which broke the £80 million world-record fee they splashed out on Cristiano Ronaldo in 2009.

Suarez, who won the Player of the Year by the PFA and the Football Writers’ Association this season, recently stated his desire to stay at Liverpool.

Suarez failed to convert 79.6% of his shots in the Premier League this season.
