Reports: Real Madrid identify Zinedine Zidane's replacement

What’s the story?

Real Madrid have had a shaky start to the 2017/18 season. Things haven't gone their way and the club's board is reportedly worried.

The rumours of Zinedine Zidane being on the verge of getting sacked have emerged and are spreading like wildfire. According to reports in Daily Mail, Tottenham's Mauricio Pochettino is the hot-favourite to replace the Frenchman at Bernabeu.

In case you didn’t know...

This is not the first time Pochettino has been linked with a LaLiga giant. Barcelona were reportedly keen on appointing him but the Argentine rejected because he was a player of local-derby rivals, Espanyol.

It's no surprise that he's on the radar of Madrid as he's been doing a wonderful job at Tottenham Hotspur. The manager has made them title contenders and Champions League regulars in a short time and they have gone to become one of the best teams in the Premier League right now.

The heart of the matter

Zidane's time at Bernabeu seems to be coming to an end. Last season, they were not putting a foot wrong but this season, things are not going their way at all.

The players have not been able to reach the levels they were at last season and the manager has also not been able to motivate them enough. The Frenchman still has the support of Florentino Perez but that would change if things are not turned around in the next few games.

Apart from Real Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain are also keeping an eye on Pochettino. The Ligue 1 side are not happy with Unai Emery and want the Argentine to take over next summer.

Pochettino has shown what he can do with a squad made from a limited budget. It's going to be interesting to see if he can the most out a huge resource or if he turns into an upgraded version of David Moyes.
