Real Madrid tracking Thomas Tuchel, says Borussia Dortmund's CEO
Borussia Dortmund CEO, Hans-Joachim Watzke has revealed that Real Madrid are tracking their current manager, Thomas Tuchel. According to reports, in the German media, Tuchel’s reputation has soared ever since his appointment with Dortmund. He replaced current Liverpool incumbent, Juergen Klopp in the summer of 2015.
Speaking to German media, ZDF, the Dortmund CEO stated, “I have a good relationship with Real Madrid and I believe that they are tracking him. After the season Thomas had with us, Real have taken account of what a first class coach we have.”
His appointment has seen the “Yellow Submarines” re-invent their style of play. Using the earlier template, Tuchel has made subtle modifications and harnessed the resources available to create a more vibrant team. Tuchel’s dynamism has flowed down to the team and his teams are generally associated with an exciting brand of football.
Dip in Form
In recent weeks, Dortmund have slipped down the league table and currently lie sixth in the table. However, Tuchel’s charges have been impressive in the UEFA Champions League. They beat Sporting Lisbon away from home in the mid-week tie and also held Madrid to a 2-2 draw, in the group stages.
Tuchel’s impressive work with Borussia has been noted across Europe. Watzke was coy about the interest in his coach and was quick to divert the topic in a sarcastic manner stating, “Thomas is still very young, and on the contrary to a player who’s 28 or 29, he could go to Real Madrid, for example, in the next 20 years.”
Tuchel though has chosen to stay silent in the above-mentioned matter as he concentrates on getting the best out of his side.
After a 3-3 draw with FC Ingolstadt, Tuchel was furious and slammed his team’s performance stating, “We were not ready to play in the Bundesliga. In any area, neither technically, tactically or in the intensity or body language. Clearly, we are disappointed because we expected to play well from the start, but perhaps we cannot expect that all the time.”
The match saw Dortmund coming back from a 2-0 deficit with goals from Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Adrian Ramos. However, it was the last gasp goal by the United States national, Christian Pulisic that rescued a point for the Dortmund side.
Tuchel has been mooted as the possible replacement for current coach, Zinedine Zidane. Although the likelihood of Zidane getting the sack is laughable at the moment, one can never underestimate the intentions of the eccentric President, Florentino Perez.
