Real Madrid's Mateo Kovacic not ruling out AC Milan transfer even after UEFA Champions League win
Real Madrid midfielder, Mateo Kovacic, has not ruled out a return to the Serie A this transfer window after failing to nail down a starting spot in Zinedine Zidane's team. The former Inter Milan man has been linked with a move to cross-city rivals AC Milan and he says 'anything can happen'.
The 22-year-old was Rafael Benitez's signing at the start of the season but since the Spaniard's sacking has failed to break into the first team under Frenchman and Real Madrid legend, Zinedine Zidane.
Heavily linked with Liverpool before joining Real Madrid, Kovacic chose the latter with the promise of games and the chance to play in Europe's top competition – which he has since won with Real's 5-3 penalty shootout win over local rivals Atletico Madrid.
However, having not made enough starts under the Frenchman, Kovacic says he's not ruling anything out in terms of transfers this summer even though he heads off to represent Croatia in the UEFA European Champions.
Speaking to reporters, he said, “As I already said, we won and that is the important thing. Now there are the Euros and I have a five-year contract.
“I remain very fond of Milan, which is a beautiful city, and I played at a big club like Inter. I had two-and-a-half wonderful years, but today I am a Real Madrid player."
The Linz-born midfield general played at Inter Milan for two seasons making forty appearances and scoring five times but has no hesitation if it comes down to joining their rivals, AC Milan. “If Milan were to call? I do not think about other teams. Anything can happen in life, but I am not thinking about that now," he concluded.
Real Madrid are on the lookout for another creative midfielder with the likes of Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Aaron Ramsey, and Paul Pogba linked piling more pressure on the young Croat to sort his future out as soon as possible.
