Leicester duo Jamie Vardy and Claudio Ranieri win November Player & Manager of the Month awards
Jamie Vardy has bagged the November award for the Barclays Premier League Player of the Month. His manager at Leicester City, Caludio Ranieri was also honoured with the Manager of the Month award.
Vardy was honoured with the award owing to a fantastic run of form in November. It was his second consecutive Premier League Player of the Month award. Vardy had also won the October award having scored five times in four matches. Vardy now also holds the record of being the fifth player to win consecutive Player of the Month prizes, preceeded by Robbie Fowler, Dennis Bergkamp, Cristiano Ronaldo and Harry Kane. It is hallowed company for the striker who was playing in the fifth division of English football 4 years ago.
The recently capped England international faced competition from Ross Barkley (Everton), Romelu Lukaku (Everton), Harry Kane (Tottenham), Troy Deeney (Watford) and Dejan Lovren (Liverpool) for November’s award.
Vardy scored in all three of Leicester’s games in November. His goal to put Leicester in the lead at Old Trafford was iconic, for it made Vardy a Premier League record holder. That goal earned him the record for scoring in 11 consecutive games in the Premier League. The record was earlier held by Ruud Van Nistelrooy, who scored for 10 consecutive games.
However, Vardy’s incessant goal scoring frenzy came to a halt in Leicester’s match against Swansea, which they won 3-0. All the three goals were scored by his colleague Riyad Mahrez, who also happens to be another bright name for Leicester City this season.
Jamie Vardy has scored 14 goals in the Premier League so far. Romelu Lukaku, with three goals less comes after him.
Vardy was described as “Electric” by his Italian coach, Claudio Ranieri, who himself was also awarded the Manager of the Month. Leicester have gathered seven points from their last three games. They sit at the top of the league table with 32 points from 15 games. Out of those 15 games they have won 9.
Leicester City are to face the reigning champions Chelsea on Tuesday. It is a great boost for Leicester City that they have won these two awards, as they will not be short of confidence when they face the Blues from London. On the other hand, Jose Mourinho’s men are probably going through the worst time of their playing career, with Chelsea sitting in fourteenth, three points away from the relegation spots.
