Report: Carlos Bacca confirms agreement to join AC Milan from Sevilla

Sevilla striker Carlos Bacca set to join AC Milan for £21.5m

Sevilla striker Carlos Bacca has confirmed that he has agreed terms with Italian giants AC Milan, according to Sky Sports. Bacca’s agent Sergio Barila had claimed on Saturday that the 28-year-old would be moving to the San Siro. The 28 year old Bacca has now seconded his claims, in an interaction with the Colombian press, Sky Sports have said.

Speaking to the press in Colombia, as reported by Sky Sports, he said, “It needs to be confirmed, but it is true – we’ve reached an agreement with Milan. My representative tells me they are the club with 100% possibility of signing me.”

The Rossoneri have reportedly triggered his £21.5 million release clause at Sevilla, which will be paid over several installments. After missing out on the likes of Jackson Martinez and Geoffrey Kondogbia, signing the prolific Colombian will be a huge achievement for new manager Sinisa Mihajlovic, who has been entrusted with the task of reclaiming the glory days at AC Milan.

Bacca scored 49 goals across all competitions in his two seasons at Sevilla, including two in Sevilla’s 2014/15 Europa League final victory over FC Dnipro. Liverpool were keen on signing the Colombian as well, but AC Milan look set to have beaten the Reds to Bacca’s signature.

The striker, who had a late beginning to his footballing career, and has had to endure many hardships to get to where he is currently, is a very popular name among football fans, both for his ability to score consistently, and for the passion he displays on the field.

He was infamously sent off against Brazil in the Copa America for pushing Neymar after the Brazilian had headbutted Bacca’s teammate Jeison Murillo. That incident limited his showing in the tournament, as Colombia were eventually knocked out by Argentina in the quarter-finals.

Bacca has been central to Sevilla’s two-time Europa League-winning campaigns, and outside of Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi has scored the most number of goals from clear-cut chances in La Liga. Ronaldo and Messi lead the way with 32 and 23 respectively, while Bacca has scored 20 goals from such chances.
