Report: Chelsea target officially requests his club to let him go, wants a reunion with Maurizio Sarri this month
What's the story?
On loan AC Milan striker Gonzalo Higuan has made an official request to his club to let him reunite with Italian manager Maurizio Sarri at Premier League club Chelsea, according to Angelo Mangiante of Sky Italia.
Sarri is a long-time admirer of the Argentine forward and had worked previously with the player in the Serie A, during their time together at Napoli. It is also understood that the manager himself is keen on bringing one of his favorite players to the Stamford Bridge.
In case you didn't know...
Higuain had the best spell of his career working under Sarri at Napoli and it was under him that he broke the 66-year old goalscoring record of the Serie A, notching up an unprecedented 36-goal haul in the 38-game league in the 2015-16 season.
This record-breaking season earned him a £75 million move to Italian giants Juventus in the following season.
The heart of the matter...
Reputed Italian journalist Angelo Mangiante tweeted yesterday that Higuain had officially talked with AC Milan to let him join Sarri at Chelsea this month.
Though Sarri is keen on reuniting with the 31-year old striker, Fabrizio Romano notes in his article in Calciomercato that Director Marina Granovskaia, often referred to as "most powerful woman in football", is not entirely convinced on spending huge sums of money on a player aged over 30.
Recently, AC Milan head coach Gennaro Gattuso admitted strong interest from Chelsea for the player but reiterated that the club is "holding on tightly" to the striker.
Now that the player has officially asked the club for their consent, Sarri can push through for a deal for him, putting an end to the speculations once and for all. But the question is whether this reunion will be the end of woes up front for the Blues?
Rumor Rating - 6/10
Higuain is a known favorite of Sarri and there have been speculations about the player following him to England from Italy ever since his appointment at Chelsea. Also, Mangiante is a reputed journalist in Italy and had also hinted at Kovacic signing for the club on loan from Real Madrid this summer.
What's next?
With the player making his intentions of wanting to join Chelsea conspicuous, it remains to be seen whether all parties involved - Chelsea, AC Milan and Juventus - can come to an agreement soon that might help Higuain get back to scoring ways, with the Argentine only netting 6 league goals this season.
