Reports: Arsenal and Chelsea linked with Edinson Cavani

Edinson Cavani

Reports emanating from France suggest that Edinson Cavani  may be contemplating his future at Paris Saint Germain, despite only joining the club in the summer. Le 10 Sport claim that the Uruguayan forward is unhappy at playing in Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s shadow, and has set the wheels in motion for his representatives to discreetly tout his services to other European Clubs.

Cavani only joined the big spending Paris club in a £50 million move from Napoli in the summer, rejecting advances from a plethora of top European sides. News of his wish for a move will come as a surprise, as the Uruguay international has been in good form during his stay in France.

In the Champions League he has scored two goals in three games, whilst he has notched nine in 12 games in Ligue 1.

PSG have been playing Cavani on the left of a forward three, opposite Ezequiel Lavezzi and next to Ibrahimovic. He is rumoured to have grown frustrated at such a role, and is pining for a more central role. In his last league outing he played centrally in the absence of Ibrahimovic, and scored twice in a 4-0 win over Lorient.

The news that Cavani is considering a move is sure to alert the Premier League’s top sides, with Chelsea, Manchester City and Arsenal all heavily linked with moves for the Uruguayan in the summer. There is still plenty of time for Cavani to change his mind, with a January move unlikely, but Premier League sides will be monitoring developments in Paris closely.

Cavani has yet to miss the target in the Champions League this season, with all 6 shots testing the goalkeeper.
