Reports: Arsenal closing in on Newcastle’s Mathieu Debuchy after agreeing £12million deal
Arsenal are to complete a £12 million transfer of Newcastle United all-action right-back Mathieu Debuchy following the completion of the World Cup, according to the Daily Star. The Star understand Arsenal have agreed a £12million deal with for Debuchy
Bacary Sagna left the Gunners this summer to join Manchester City on a free transfer after seven years in north London that wielded just the one trophy and that came in his final season as Aaron Ramsey scored the winning goal in the FA Cup final against Hull City.
Debuchy has been linked with a move to Arsenal for a while and could well replace the outgoing Sagna, despite strong links to Ivory Coast international Serge Aurier.
Aurier was brilliant for his country in the World Cup despite their group stage exit and was primed for a move to the Emirates before the tournament started. However, those rumours have now subsided with Debuchy now the main man linked with Arsenal.
The Daily Star say the deal to take him from the north east to the south east of England should be completed when Debuchy finishes the World Cup with France, where he is currently playing extremely well. Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is also out in Brazil working as a pundit so that could also be a reason why the deal will wait until the tournament’s end.
Debuchy ramped up talk of leaving Newcastle last week when he claimed he was desperate to play in the Champions League.
