Reports: Arsenal trigger Jamie Vardy's release clause as Wenger looks to solve striker problems

Arsene Wenger has decided to act quickly in the transfer market this season. After the signing of Granit Xhaka from Borussia Monchengladbach, the club have decided to make Jamie Vardy their second summer signing.

Several sources have suggested the Leicester man has a release clause of £20 million and the Gunners have apparently triggered that clause in his contract. It is a surprising move considering Vardy's age but Wenger sees him as a good option up front.

Vardy has breathtaking pace and he missed out on the golden boot by just one goal last campaign as the Foxes lifted the title. Arsenal, on the other hand, saw their title challenge collapse because of their lack of fire-power.

Wenger has decided to try and complete the transfer before the start of the Euros and he watched him play for England in the friendly against Portugal. This will be a move that slightly drifts away from the usual going by Arsenal’s transfer policy.

Normally the Gunners don’t spend on more than one or two players every season but Vardy’s price tag seems favourable compared to how much they would have to shell out for other top strikers from big clubs.

Vardy will have a decision to make whether to leave the English champions and join Arsenal or continue with the Foxes. The striker will turn 30 in January next year and might be in his prime for only a couple more years.

Talks have reportedly already taken place and now the decision has to be taken by Jamie Vardy. Manchester United are also interested in the forward but with Zlatan Ibrahimovic very likely to join Jose Mourinho Vardy is not their priority.

Morata tempted by Premier League

Arsenal are also targeting Juventus hitman Alvaro Morata. The striker has been picked by Vincente Del Bosque in the Spain squad for the Euros over the likes of Fernando Torres and Diego Costa.

Real Madrid have a first option to buy him back but they haven’t made a decision yet. Morata admitted he would love to go back to his boyhood club but also said he was tempted by offers from the Premier League.

Arsene Wenger might not opt to sign the player considering his hefty price tag. Morata is definitely a talent but has not yet proved himself as a regular goalscorer which is also something the Gunners will be aware of.
