Reports: Barcelona and Liverpool agree £63m Luis Suarez fee
Reports in Spain suggest that Liverpool and Barcelona have agreed a £63 million fee for Liverpool forward Luis Suarez, who will sign a five-year-deal with the Catalan club.
The Daily Mirror cite sources in Spain as saying that the two clubs have agreed a fee of £63 million, well below the Uruguay striker’s rumoured £80 million release clause.
Suarez, banned for four months for a bite on Giorgio Chiellini while at the World Cup, has long been linked with a move to Barcelona, having scored 31 goals in 33 Premier League games last season.
The biting controversy – which will see him miss the start of the season – saw interest in him from Real Madrid cool, but Barcelona were undeterred by the third biting incident of the 27-year-old’s career.
Barcelona’s interest in Suarez marks the second successive summer of transfer rumours surrounding the forward, who was the subject of interest from Arsenal last summer.
Liverpool stood firm on that occasion, but with reports suggesting a fee has been agreed they are likely to have to start searching for a replacement for their star striker.
