Reports: Chelsea identify a replacement for Alvaro Morata
What’s the rumour?
As per reports from Tuttosport (via Metro), Chelsea have identified Paris Saint-Germain superstar Edinson Cavani to replace Morata if the Spaniard leaves the club this summer.
In case you didn't know...
Cavani is one of the best strikers in the world and recently became PSG's all-time leading goalscorer as well. He has amassed more than 350 goals for club and country in a career spanning nearly 15 years.
Known for his predatory instincts, aerial prowess as well as his hold-up play, Cavani joined PSG from Napoli in 2013 and has played a pivotal role in their resurgence.
The 31-year-old has a contract with PSG until 2020.
The heart of the matter
Following a club-record transfer to Chelsea last summer, Morata has struggled to find his feet at the London club. Despite scoring 15 goals this campaign, he has looked out of sorts for the majority of the season. He also had to cope with a couple of injury setbacks as well.
There have been exit talks surrounding the Spaniard already and the rumours have intensified as we are nearing the transfer window. Thus, The Blues have identified Cavani as a prime target to replace Morata in case he decides to move on.
Cavani has enjoyed another excellent season with PSG, scoring 39 goals and leading the club to another domestic double.

At the moment, these are only rumours and we do not have any concrete information yet about a possible transfer.

Author’s take
Despite a shaky start to life in England, Morata has the calibre to turn things around. But if he decides to move on to greener pastures, there are not many strikers better than Cavani to replace him. It will take a lot of persuasion from Chelsea to make this happen because Cavani has also been linked with Atletico Madrid and Juventus.
